Renowned baritone Benjamin Appl has announced an ambitious release schedule with Alpha Classics, featuring three major albums over the next six months. His new releases include The Christmas Album, Lines of Life, and To Dieter: The Past and Future, showcasing collaborations with celebrated musicians and orchestras, and exploring themes close to Appl's heart.
- The Christmas Album – Released 1st November 2024
Appl returned home to his old childhood choir Regensburger Domspatzen to record The Christmas Album featuring Bach Chorales and popular carols, alongside the Munich Radio Orchestra and conductor Florian Helgath. The album marks his first collaboration with Alpha Classics involving a symphony orchestra and choir.
- Lines of Life – Released 14th February 2025
Lines of Life is a testament to Appl’s collaboration with esteemed Hungarian composer György Kurtág; “He has shaped me as a musician and person perhaps like no other”, describes Appl. This album includes five world-premiere recordings by Kurtág and pairs them with Schubert songs.
- To Dieter: The Past and Future – Released 23rd May 2025
To Dieter: The Past and Future pays homage to Appl’s mentor, the legendary Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, on the centenary of his birth. This album features pianist James Baillieu, a regular collaborator with Appl, and includes works by Schubert, Brahms, and Britten to rare recordings of Fischer-Dieskau’s own poetry and compositions by his family members.
