Four years after Tránsito, next Thursday, February 13th, the Teatro Real in Madrid will host the premiere of Jesús Torres' new opera: Tejas verdes. The libretto is by Fermín Cabal and is based on his own play of the same name.
The musical direction will be led by Jordi Francés, while the stage direction is by Rafael R. Villalobos. The cast features the voices of Natalia Labourdette, Ana Ibarra, Alicia Amo, Maria Miró, Sandra Ferrández, Laura Vila, and Alejandro del Cerro.
The six scheduled performances will take place on February 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, and 22th. The program also includes La vida breve by Manuel de Falla.
The premiere of Tejas verdes coincides with two other works by Jesús Torres that will also debut in the upcoming days. The first, performed by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, is Coplas, for soprano, harp, and cello, featuring verses from the renowned Coplas a la muerte de su padre by Jorge Manrique.
The second is Oda, for tenor and ensemble, based on verses from Vicente Aleixandre's poem Oda a los niños de Madrid muertos por la metralla (1936). This performance will take place at the Sala Berlanga in Madrid, featuring tenor Pablo García-López and PluralEnsemble.
