Esther Yoo's international career continues brilliant. Following her success last season at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the violinist returned to the prestigious hall on March 9 with works by Bruch and Tchaikovsky alongside the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Ruth Reinhardt. Last week, she also received two five-star reviews from the prestigious British publication Reviews Gate for her performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Vasily Petrenko.
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, 27 March 2025, 5☆☆☆☆☆. Review: William Ruff.
Esther Yoo’s brilliance as an interpreter was evident both to the ears and the eyes: silkily elegant, dazzlingly virtuosic and able to make this (perhaps) over-familiar work sing anew.
Vasily Petrenko & the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – Symphony Hall, Birmingham 29 March 2025, 5☆☆☆☆☆ Review: David Gray & Paul Gray.
Violin, Esther Yoo, played with intensity and lots of colour, all underscored with a soaring, powerful and clear-core tone. With some beautiful phrasing, Yoo created the impression of an endless, organic melody during the slow movement. Her passage work was well pointed and positively crystalline.
Five stars for Esther Yoo!
